Our Mission

At the Research Center for Future Energy Materials and Systems, we are dedicated to developing cutting-edge materials essential for energy conversion, storage, transport, and the generation of energy carriers. Our mission is to drive scientific discoveries and innovation through collaborations of our newly appointed professors and the strong research environment of three universities in the Ruhr area.

Our program is based on three core research areas:

  1. Fundamental Understanding of Materials Properties and Processes: We explore quantum mechanical processes at interfaces and within heterostructures to unlock the potential of energy-relevant materials like catalysts, magnets, and superconductors. By understanding the intrinsic nature of these materials we are able to tailor their extrinsic properties to advance their full potential for energy applications.
  2. Design of New High-Performance Materials: We design materials at the atomic scale using high-throughput experimental and simulation methods, integrating physical and chemical models with machine learning to develop materials with unprecedented performance.
  3. Integration into Future Energy Solutions: We bridge the gap between materials discovery and industrial application by developing scalable synthesis, coating, and patterning processes. Through our innovative approaches, we aim to facilitate the transition from groundbreaking research to real-world energy solutions that drive sustainability and efficiency.

By fostering a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment, we strive to drive transformative advancements of energy materials, contributing to a sustainable and energy-efficient future.
